There's an old family legend that if someone receives a kismet cookie and sleeps with it under their pillow, then they will dream of their true love. As a teenager, Sarah (Sarah Ramos) did this. When her dream showed Travis (Carlos Marks) was her true love, she went to him to tell him. Unfortunately, Travis was marrying someone else. Sarah ran away to become a writer. Now she's returned to her hometown, and discovered Travis is the father of the child who won her writing contest.

This Christmas is the first in five that Marliee has returned home to Jamestown, OR since she moved to Miami, where she in the interim has completed her residency and opened her own veterinary clinic with her boyfriend of two years, Miles, the only person she knows who is even more driven than her. That drive has its downside in their relationship as they spend more time as business partners than as romantic partners, he, who at the last second, decides not to accompany her to Oregon in having too much work to finish before Christmas. This decision may show Marilee that their relationship has finally hit the end of the road. In Jamestown, Marilee does not expect but does run into her old firefighter boyfriend Zachary in assuming that he would be away for Christmas as he has been for the past several years. While a common work ethic brought Marilee and Miles together, that peripherally is what tore Marilee and Zach apart in he having resisted any change in his life, especially his personal life. What originally did bring them together was their mutual love of cats, namely who "adopted" an initially reluctant Zach, a homeless one named Ambrose. So when Zach finds a box of nine abandoned kittens outside the firehall, he forgoes his Christmas getaway to tend to the kittens, including finding good homes for them. With the town's vet recently having retired, Marilee volunteers to assist Zach with this matter. In spending time together, Marilee and Zach can admit to themselves that there is still a spark between them, Zach who does not know how to show Marilee that he is now open to his life progressing. Factoring into into what happens between them includes Sam, the fire chief, imminently retiring, and Miles having his own thoughts if his and Marilee's relationship, both professional and personal, has truly ended.—Huggo

In the town of Elmhurst, Lucy works for her best friend Joan at her home décor and design shop. But if Lucy is being honest, her heart is on her Christmas side job of organizing for the last ten years Project Christmas Wish, which she created, it which tries to grant the holiday related wishes of town residents as best it can. Why she is so invested in this endeavor is in her own Christmas wish being granted when she and her mother Joyce were going through some difficult times upon the passing of Joyce's husband/Lucy's father when Lucy was a child, and thus she truly believing in the power of wishes. Project Christmas Wish highlights one wish every year as a means to engage the community. The wish that Lucy plans to highlight this year after an impromptu declaration on the radio is for eight year old Max, recently moved to town and having trouble finding her place. Her wish: to have a Merry Christmas like she used to before her mother passed three years ago, Max's father, Lucas, who has not been able to get into the Christmas spirit since in missing his wife, Stephanie. Lucy making as public a declaration of highlighting Max's wish as the focus for the Project this year is before Lucy learns that Lucas had no idea that Max either had this wish or was going to make such a public declaration. Despite not wanting to be the focus of the town, Lucas feels that he has no other choice but to indulge Max in this very public granting of her wish. As Lucy goes about trying to make Max remember the joys of Christmas, especially with her mother no longer alive, Max decides to alter her wish in making it a Merry Christmas equally for her and for her father. In the process, Max may get that additional wish in Lucas and Lucy falling for each other. But a Merry Christmas this year may be in jeopardy if their mutual feelings are overtaken by both not yet being ready to open their hearts romantically, for Lucas in not wanting to forget Stephanie, and for Lucy in not wanting to be hurt again as was the case in the dissolution of her first marriage.—Huggo

This Christmas season, Noelle, a diner waitress, is focused on making it a merry one for her only offspring, preteen Henry, as it's the first since she and Henry's father Greg divorced. Noelle, who has primary custody of Henry, is unaware that he has been acting out in part because of her and Greg's constant fighting, the latest point of contention being that Greg wants Henry to spend Christmas day with him and his fiancée Rita in what was their family home - what Greg considers a more stable environment - despite that day legally being Noelle's with Henry. On top of everything, Henry and thus by association Noelle, have gotten into a battle with one of the neighbors in their vast townhouse complex, who they only know as Mr. Geer in unit 224, he who has shown his Grinch-like demeanor to others in the complex over his dislike of Christmas. While Noelle's sister Shannon has tried to set her up on blind dates, Noelle has been resistant to date again, that is until she meets Jeremy, a new diner customer with who she feels she has made an emotional connection. She will learn that similarly divorced Jeremy is an ex-orchestra conductor now composer, he who walks with a cane and has a lame left arm due to having suffered a stroke a few years ago which led to his ex-wife Taylor leaving him in his depression. The question then becomes what will happen between Noelle and Jeremy when she discovers that Jeremy and Mr. Geer are one and the same - his aversion to Christmas due to it being when he suffered the stroke that completely destroyed his life - and when he discovers that Noelle is the mother of the preteen who has been constantly bothering him in his acting out.—Huggo
