8-years-old Oscar Madly became traumatized. Around the same time that his mother left their family (with Oscar firmly taking his dad's side), Oscar witnessed a gay hate crime at school that left the victim bloodied and permanently paralyzed. Ten years pass. Oscar, befriended by his talking hamster Buffy, wants to get into a special effects make-up school (using his friend Gemma as a model), and has come to realize his spiteful father's anti-social, immature short-comings. When Oscar meets co-worker Wilder at the hardware store, sexual feelings begin to stir but accompanied by severe stomach pains (the memory of the hate crime). A farewell costume party for Wilder brings Oscar's issues to a head, expressed sometimes in surreal terms.—statmanjeff

The story take place in the summer, at an empty of kids summer camp with the camp counselors freshly arrived. Sam (Fran Kranz), the protagonist, is the head summer camp counselor and owner of the summer camp Camp Clear Vista. Away from the civilization, with no phones or other distractions they were fine, trying to relax by telling scary stories to each other and have fun. That night Sam decides to share the legend for this property about a great evil power and a man that made a wooden mask which had all that power and made him kill people. It all started to go wrong when Imani (Brittany S. Hall), one of the camp counselors that happens to be his ex, suggest to all go to a treasure hunt to find that mask. A camp counselor and Sam founded that cursed mask buried in the forest in front of that mans grave. Sam doesn't want to do anything with it. He actually tries to warn her but she plays with it and makes him wear it after all. Suddendly, a mysterious serial killer starts to brutally murdering the camp counselors one by one and Sam is the one finding the dead bodies. Sam, covered in blood, in his last chance to survive, called his friend Chuck (Alyson Hannigan) for advice. He suffers from several memory loss but soon Chuck made him realize that the facts that he was covered in blood but not hurt, had the mask and a ancient knife were enough to made him the killer after all. Chuck tells him that this kind of crazy stories often ends when the final person that survives is the girl with the pure heart that kills the murder. Sam then realize that that one is him and tries to do everything to brake the curse and don't end up dead by the final girl, Jamie (Jenna Harvey).

An Easter story. Frank is a Manhattan medic, working graveyard in a two-man ambulance team. He's burned out, exhausted, seeing ghosts, especially a young woman he failed to save six months' before, and no longer able to save people: he brings in the dead. We follow him for three nights, each with a different partner: Larry, who thinks about dinner, Marcus, who looks to Jesus, and Tom, who wallops people when work is slow. Frank befriends the daughter of a heart victim he brings in; she's Mary, an ex-junkie, angry at her father but now hoping he'll live. Frank tries to get fired, tries to quit, and keeps coming back, to work and to Mary, in need of his own rebirth.—

Bringing Out the Dead (1999)

Hanna Kaufman is a Jewish-American, who moved to Israel and now works as a defense lawyer there. Her troubles start when she's court-appointed to defend Palestinian Salim Bakri, who's been arrested and charged by the military tribunal with belonging to a terrorist network. Bakri claims that he's an innocent victim of prosecution by the Israeli state, because he wants his family's property back. Hanna investigates his claims and realizes that he may not be lying. The prosecutor proposes a way to both get rid of Bakri and not give in to his demands. Hanna must decide whether to give in and possibly save her client's life or fight for what she, as the child of Holocaust survivors, believes to be right. This case takes a tall on her personal life as well.
